EDS Skills Training in Brussels

The EDS Skills Training took place in Brussels from 15 to 17 October 2025, bringing together over 20 delegates, including several first-time participants at an EDS event.
The program began with a Welcome Dinner and networking session, setting a friendly and collaborative tone for the days ahead. Despite a few delayed arrivals due to flight issues, all delegates successfully joined the group, and there were no cancellations.
A Day of Learning and Exchange
The main day of the training, Thursday, 16 October, started at the EPP Headquarters, where participants discussed insights from the Athens Democracy Forum, focusing on the rise of far-right populism and the impact of algorithms on public discourse. Delegates also shared perspectives on political developments in France and the Netherlands.
During the morning, participants were honored to welcome Mr. Michalis Hadjipantela, MEP and former Minister of Health of Cyprus, who shared his views on countering populism and strengthening democratic resilience. His visit also included a short podcast recording.
Later, delegates had the opportunity to visit Bloomberg’s Brussels office, thanks to an initiative by EDS Chairman Francesco Sismondini. The discussion covered topics such as ESG principles, the Green Agenda, transatlantic cooperation, and career opportunities. The session inspired many young participants, particularly when learning that two of the speakers began their careers as EPP interns.
Focus on Innovation and Skills
After a light lunch at the EDS office, participants continued to the Microsoft Innovation Center, where they met with the Head of European Government Affairs and his colleague. The session explored AI regulation, data protection, and the latest cybersecurity trends, including threats from hacker groups allegedly supported by states such as Russia, Iran, North Korea, and China.
The afternoon concluded with interactive workshops led by Vice-chair Filip Gajic, who guided participants through writing effective motions, and editor in chief BullsEye Magazine Charlie Crumpton, who held a session on article writing. Reflection groups and team-building activities rounded off the learning experience.
The day ended with a dinner at a traditional Belgian restaurant, followed by a visit to the famous Plux, a popular Thursday gathering place for interns, PAs, and lobbyists in Brussels.
