Students at Risk
Not every student has the privilege to live and to learn in a free and democratic society. In oder to help those students who have been expelled from University due to their political fight for human rights and democracy, we believe that it is necessary to introduce a ”Student at Risk“ programme at a European level.
The project ‘Students at Risk’ aims to assist students who have been expelled from Higher Education Institutions due to their political fight for human rights and democracy. The programme aims to give those students the opportunity to finalise their studies and once they do so they agree to return home, unless doing so will put the student’s life at risk. The success of the programme is largely based on information exchange with local partners such as NGOs, political foundations and think tanks or embassies, who can inform about the students’ situations.
At the moment the programme is only operating in Norway with subsidies of the Norwegian government. There are about 15 students in total coming from countries such as Gambia, Syria, Swaziland, Gaza.
