EDS at the Jeunes Républicains Rentrée in Paris

This weekend, EDS Secretary General Filip Gajic and Deputy Secretary General Halit Jakub Karakus joined the Jeunes Républicains’ Campus de rentrée in Paris, bringing EDS into one of the key political gatherings marking the start of the new political season in France.

During the event, our delegation had the opportunity to meet and exchange views with several leading figures from Les Républicains (LR), including Bruno Retailleau, President of Les Républicains and Senator; Michel Barnier, former Prime Minister of France and Member of the National Assembly; and François-Xavier Bellamy MEP and First Vice-President of Les Républicains. They also met with Jeunes Républicains President Théo Am’saidi and Vice-President Alice Clergeau, continuing the strong relationship between EDS and our French partners.

The gathering also marked the launch of Bruno Retailleau’s campaign, giving our delegation the chance to connect with members of his campaign team and spokespersons and to get a closer look at the political priorities shaping the months ahead.

A particular highlight of the weekend was the strong youth perspective throughout the programme. Panel discussions gave young members of the Jeunes Républicains space to present their own policy ideas and proposals directly to the party, showing the important role young people can play in shaping political debate rather than simply observing it from the sidelines.

Beyond the formal programme, the weekend was also an opportunity to strengthen personal connections and exchange ideas in a more relaxed setting. The evening ended with a proper French welcome — barbecue, cheese, wine and charcuterie, shared in excellent company.
