EDS Chairman Calls for Stronger Youth Role in Peace and Security at UN Event
EDS proudly continues its international advocacy through the active engagement of its Chairman, Mr. Sismondini, who took part in the recent Global Briefing of the ECOSOC Youth Forum under the framework of the United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth.
During the high-level event, Chairman Sismondini had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Felipe Paullier, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs. The exchange highlighted the growing recognition of youth as critical stakeholders in global policymaking, particularly in the fields of diplomacy and peacebuilding.
Chairman Sismondini also spoke during the Peace and Security working group session, masterfully led by Ms. Saumya Aggarwal of the United Nations. Addressing a global audience of over 800 participants, he stressed a pressing issue:
“There is a clear generational gap in today's global leadership. Young people—today’s new generation—must be empowered to take a leading role in shaping the Peace & Security agenda of the United Nations.”
He further emphasized that the involvement of youth in political and diplomatic processes is not only a right, but a necessity—especially in negotiations and decisions that directly affect their future, safety, and lives.
With this intervention, Chairman Sismondini reaffirmed EDS's commitment to ensuring youth are not just heard, but meaningfully included at all levels of international governance.
