From April 29th to 30th, the EDS delegation participated in the EPP Congress, co-hosted by the Partido Popular (PP) in the beautiful city of Valencia, Spain.
On the first day, the Congress re-elected Mr. Manfred Weber as President of the European People’s Party for another three-year term. We wish him every success in his renewed mandate and look forward to continued cooperation.
Our Chairman, Francesco Sismondini, took part in a panel on demographic changes, where he spoke about the vital role of students in European society and the challenges we face as a generation.
On the margins of the Congress, we had the honor of meeting several high-level officials, including the President of the European Parliament, Ms. Roberta Metsola; Italy’s Foreign Minister, Mr. Antonio Tajani; President of the Cypriot House of Representatives, Mrs. Annita Demetriou; MEP Andrzej Halicki (Poland), MEPEleonora Meleti of Greece and President of Partit Nazzjonalista Bernard Grech (Malta). We underlined the importance of students for the future of our Union and stressed the need to increase funding for Erasmus+.
On the second day, the Congress unanimously adopted our motion on strengthening academic freedom, a great success for EDS and student representation.
Additionally, the Congress elected Ms. Dolors Montserrat as the new Secretary General of the EPP, Mr. François-Xavier Bellamy as Treasurer, and the following as Vice Presidents: Petteri Orpo, Antonio Tajani, David McAllister, Siegfried Mureşan, Andrzej Halicki, Dubravka Šuica, Magnus Brunner, Kostis Hatzidakis, Mairead McGuinness, and Paulo Rangel. We warmly congratulate the newly elected officials and wish them the best of luck in their new roles!
We presented our newest edition of BullsEye Magazine to the delegates of the Congress and got complimented for our effort and vision.
