Brussels, 16 July 2026 — European Democrat Students held a statutory meeting today dedicated to the reform of its Statutes, ahead of the vote scheduled for the Council Meeting in Warsaw (30 July – 2 August 2026).

Opening the meeting, Chairman Francesco Sismondini underlined that EDS must modernise its legal framework in line with the statutes of the European People's Party. Secretary General Vladimir Kljajićcthen presented the new draft Statutes, which bring EDS fully in line with the Belgian Code of Companies and Associations of 2019, introduce a simpler membership structure, establish a published statutory mandate for the Secretary General's day-to-day management, and strengthen financial controls to the standards expected of EPP member associations. The draft also enlarges the Executive Bureau to a Chairperson and ten Vice-Chairpersons; if adopted, elections for the two additional Bureau members will be organised at the next Council Meeting.

Following questions from the floor, two refinements were agreed for the text going to the vote: the term of the Internal Auditors is extended from one to two Working Years, and in case of incapacity or resignation of the Secretary General, the Deputy Secretary General will serve as acting Secretary General, subject to confirmation at the first following Council Meeting. In the spirit of inclusivity, delegates of EDS Observer Members also took part in the meeting and shared their views.

The presentation was met with positive comments from member organisations. Work now begins on the revised Internal Regulations and Standing Orders, which will likewise be presented to the Council. The draft Statutes, together with all documents for the Warsaw Council Meeting, have been circulated to member organisations.
